How to Add Custom Fonts to Your tinyEmail Templates

Custom Fonts in tinyEmail Templates

Introduction

Are you tired of being limited to the standard fonts available in your email template editor? With tinyEmail's new Custom Fonts feature, you can now add any font you desire to your templates, giving your emails a unique and personalized touch.

How to Add a Custom Font

  1. Access the Template Editor: Navigate to the template editor where you want to add the custom font.
  2. Select the Font: Go to the font options and scroll to the bottom.
  3. Click "Add Custom Font": This will open a popup where you'll need to provide the following information:

  1. Font Name: The desired name for the font.
  2. Font Family: The font family name (e.g., "Arial," "Helvetica," etc.).
  3. Font URL: The URL where the font file is located (usually a .ttf or .otf file).

Example How to Add Custom Fonts from Google fonts

  • head over to the Google Fonts website and choose the desired font for your email campaign. For this example, let's select the Sixtyfour Convergence font;

  • Once you've selected Sixtyfour Convergence or any other font, click on the "Get font" button, followed by "Get embed code". This will provide you with the necessary information to add the font into your tinyEmail account;

  • Within the font customization interface, choose the desired weight and style for the font. You have the option to apply a full axis or select a specific value for the weight and style;

  • From the Google Fonts embed code, copy the Font URL and the Font Family. Ensure that you accurately capture these details, as they will be crucial for the integration process;

Copy all the required fields and and paste into the tinyEmail template editor.

Important Considerations

Embedding Method and Hosting:

  1. tinyEmail currently accepts fonts embedded using the CSS method only.

  2. The CSS file containing the font information must be hosted on a server using the HTTPS protocol for security reasons.

Font Compatibility:

  • While custom fonts can enhance your email design, it's important to be aware of compatibility limitations with different email clients:

    Supported Clients:

    • iOS Mail
    • Apple Mail
    • Android (default mail client, not Gmail app)
    • Thunderbird

    Unsupported Clients:

    • Outlook 2007/2010/2013/2016/2019: These versions are incompatible with custom fonts. They will display only traditional web-safe fonts. In some cases, other fonts may appear if physically installed on the recipient's computer.
    • Gmail: While Google Fonts are not supported, Gmail does offer native support for two web fonts: Google Sans and Roboto.

    Recommendation for Font Selection:

    To ensure a wider audience sees your desired fonts, consider using a combination of:

    • Your chosen custom font (knowing it may not display for all recipients)
    • A fallback web-safe font that will be displayed if the custom font is not supported.

Licensing:

  • Always ensure you have the necessary license to use the font you choose. tinyEmail is not responsible for any legal issues arising from unlicensed fonts.
