Custom Return Path

Custom Return Path

What is Custom Return Path?

When Custom Return Path is enabled for an account, email bounces are routed to the customer's own sender domain (bounce@bounce.<senderdomain>) instead of the shared TinyEmail bounce mailbox. This improves deliverability and gives customers cleaner bounce tracking under their own domain.

Prerequisites

  • You must have access to your domain's DNS settings.
  • Your sending domain must already be verified in tinyEmail.

Add the Required DNS Record

To enable a Custom Return Path, you'll first need to add the required DNS record to your domain.
  1. Log in to your tinyEmail account
  2. Navigate to My Account → Sender Details
  3. Locate your verified sending domain
  4. Follow the DNS setup instructions provided on the page
  5. Add the required DNS record(s) to your domain provider's DNS settings

You can view the DNS setup instructions  here: Automated process for DNS Setup (DKIM, SPF & DMARC)

Manual DNS Option

You may also add the record manually by copying the required DNS values (host, type, and value) from the Sender Details page into your domain provider’s DNS settings.

Important

DNS changes may take some time to propagate depending on your domain provider. The verification status will update automatically once the DNS record is detected.

Enable Custom Return Path

Once the DNS record has been successfully verified:

  1. Navigate to Account Settings
  2. Select Deliverability
  3. Locate the Enable Custom Return Path option
  4. Toggle the setting On
  5. Click Save

  6. All done! Bounces for outgoing emails from this account will now be routed to bounce@bounce.<senderdomain>.
